Owner Javier Hurtado was born in Cuernavaca, Mexico just outside of Mexico City. Both his mother and father came from a heritage rich in agriculture and food preparation. His family raised cattle and pigs and sold local meats and cheese when farming was a way to sustain life and livelihood. From his upbringing he learned the importance of raising and slaughtering meats organically and the art of preparing farm raised meats and produce. In his youth he shared his time between his fathers butcher shop and his mothers restaurant cultivating the craft of cooking and selling indigenous Mexican food. He has shared his gift of blending traditional Mexican food with culinary incite by creating Cha! Cha! Cha! Mexican taquerias who offer traditional Mexican fare for busy Portlanders, who want healthy, timely, quality food.
Cha Taqueria and Bar was created in an ongoing journey to bring the healthiest most sustainable ingredients while keeping traditional cooking values. Cha serves upscale Mexican cuisine with an emphasis on organic ingredients served with an authentic twist. The atmosphere is rustic yet modern, loft-life in the NW Nob Hill area. The centerpiece of the space is the dramatic bar wall showcasing nearly every tequila imaginable and fresh innovative Margaritas and cocktails. We strive to be inventive yet please a variety of palates by serving everything from fresh Ceviche flights to Mole Poblano and taco plates. Live music, complements the menu on Friday and Saturday night for a added twist. Cha's ongoing journey is to continue to create food that is delicious, affordable and organically minded.
